Skeldale House, Askrigg

Austin 10 – Skeldale House, Askrigg

As fans of “All Creatures Great and Small” will know, Skeldale House was the location used for the exterior filming of the original BBC series. Guests love the fact they can stay in this historic building which has been lovingly restored to retain so many of the original features which can be seen on the show. We even have a fully working Austin 10 parked outside the door.

Oliver Crocker

On October 1st we are welcoming the acclaimed writer, Oliver Crocker, author of “All Memories Great and Small” to Skeldale House for a book signing, along with Rosie Page, daughter of the real James Herriot (AKA Alf Wight) and Paul Lyon who played Jimmy Herriot in the classic series. This is a free event, open to all those who would like to meet Oliver and guests, with the opportunity to buy a personally signed copy of his book as a memento of the day. Rosie and Paul, just two of the 75 interviewees who have contributed to All Memories Great & Small, will also be happy to sign the books purchased on the day.

Packed with insight into all 90 episodes, the book features a foreword by Rosie Page, daughter of Alf Wight, who describes the book as “A must for all Herriot fans, which will also be enjoyed by anyone with any interest in television production.” The event is free and will run from 11am until 2pm on Sunday 1st October.
